Freedom Run

2009

This year we named the Mini Marathon – ‘Freedom Run’  - Freedom from Tobacco use The marathon  was  organized by Curious Sports Club in association with Salaam Bombay Foundation, on Jan. 11, 2008 at Lalbaug area. This is the second year of Salaam Bombay Foundation’s association with the mini marathon. We reached out to 1500 children in that area.

Important dignitaries like Mr. Mohan Ravle  (MP) Mr. Dagdu Sakpal  (MLA) attended the marathon and encouraged the children and spoke about the importance of the tobacco cause. Mrs. Padmini Somani and Mr. Aditya Somani, Director of Salaam Bombay Foundation were there to cheer and encourage the young kids.



2008

The first kids’ marathon of the season witnessed over 1500 kids participating in a run to claim their right to live in a tobacco-free environment. The event titled Mini Marathon was co- hosted by Salaam Bombay Foundation, in association with Curious Sport Club and is Mumbai’s largest Marathon for kids in the age group of 7 to 17 years.

The Mini marathon is an initiative under the umbrella of Sports Against Tobacco, a program developed by Salaam Bombay Foundation targeted towards building life skills among children through the medium of sports.

The marathon was flagged of at Meghwadi Gate, Lalbaug at 7:00 am and traced a 6 km route leading back to Lalbagh.


2007

33 students of Salaam Bombay Cricket Academy (SBCA) participated in the Mini Marathon, organized by Curious Sports Club on December 30, 2007. Children ran from the Lalbagh (Parel) area to Byculla. The marathon was broadly divided into three running categories- 6km, 4km and 3km .750 participants of the marathon wore t-shirt with interesting and evocative anti tobacco message. A  student of Salaam Bombay Cricket Academy, Dharmendra from Andheri Municipal School was a proud winner. The  run generated a very positive response  for tobacco issue and helped to spread the message of Tobacco menace even further.
